7 Winter Wedding Ideas For a Magical Winter Wedding

With the vow of fragile snowflakes, a crisp chill to the air, and the chance to cosy up next to a roaring fire, winter is one of the most magical times of the year. Although it’s not the most popular season to get married, tying the knot during one of the colder months is a sure way to make your wedding memorable and unique.

If you lose yourself in daydreams of a winter wonderland wedding, here are seven winter wedding ideas to transform your fantasy into reality.

Choose the right venue

1. Choose the right venue
Not all wedding venues are equal. While some shine brightest in spring, others come into their own in winter. An all-white ceremony room sets the perfect foundation for a winter wonderland wedding, while a rustic barn offers an elegant ski chalet vibe you won’t get from other locations.

2. Throw snow confetti
Traditional pastel-coloured confetti and dried rose petals don’t quite fit in with a winter wedding. Instead, order some white confetti for your guests. When you and your partner walk down the aisle, it will be like you’re walking through delicate snowfall!

Just make sure you check with the wedding venue that confetti is allowed. Some places limit you to biodegradable confetti and others don’t allow it at all.

Decorate with fairy lights

3. Decorate with fairy lights
Fairy lights aren’t just for Christmas — they’re for winter weddings, too! Twinkling fairy lights create the perfect romantic backdrop for photos and are extremely versatile. You can use them to create photo walls, wrap them around bannisters, pop them inside vases for centrepieces, and use them to line paths.

4. Make festive ice buckets
DIY ice buckets are cheap and make stunning centrepieces. Fill an ice bucket with ordinary tap water and place a wine bottle in the centre. Around the wine bottle, add fresh cranberries, rosemary sprigs, pine cones, and anything else you can think of. The ice keeps the wine and champagne wonderfully cool on the table while also creating a rustic, homely vibe.

Offer mulled wine

5. Offer mulled wine
Instead of treating your guests to a glass of prosecco or champagne as they arrive, offer them a mug of hot mulled wine. Not only will it help keep your guests warm if the weather’s bad, but it will also make your wedding venue smell incredible.

6. Add pops of warm colour
If you don’t want to go for a white and silver colour palette, add some pops of colour with warm jewel tones. Dark reds, greens, oranges, golds, and mauves completely transform cold, minimalist wedding venues into intimate, relaxed, and snug spots.

Choose sparkling bridesmaid dresses

7. Choose sparkling bridesmaid dresses
Winter is the perfect time of year to add a little bit of sparkle to everything, including your wedding. Adding some sparkling sequins, crystals, or beads to your bridesmaid dresses really enhances the winter wonderland theme in a tasteful and sophisticated way. The dresses will also twinkle under the light and look fantastic in photos.

Winter is a truly wonderful time of year to get married. Not only can you play around with snow, Christmas, and skiing themes, but you’ll also save a small fortune on your big day. Because winter isn’t one of the most popular times of the year for weddings, you’ll usually get great deals on your venue as well as the services you need on your big day.
