How to Style Your Wedding Ring

Congratulations, you’re married! You’ve fallen head over heels in love with your beautiful diamond engagement ring and chosen a gorgeous wedding ring to pair with it. But how are you going to wear them together? Is there a right and a wrong way? Do you have to wear both of them together all the time? There are so many questions that need answering!

To help make things a little easier for you, we’ve put together a simple guide covering the most popular ways you can style your wedding ring.

ring finger

What is the ring finger?

The term “ring finger” is one you’ll probably have come across when shopping for rings. It refers to the finger that lies between your middle and little fingers on both your left and right hand. In the UK, when someone mentions your “ring finger”, they usually mean the one on your left hand.

What’s the meaning behind the ring finger?

The ring finger dates back to ancient Rome. Centuries ago, Romans believed that the finger on your left hand, between your middle finger and your little finger, had a vein that went directly to your heart. Wearing a ring on that finger became a symbol of commitment and passion.

wedding ring

Do I have to wear my wedding ring on my ring finger?

In the UK, engagement and wedding rings are usually worn on the ring finger on the left hand. But in other countries, such as Spain, Greece, and Poland, people wear their engagement and wedding rings on the ring finger on their right hand. Ultimately, it’s completely up to you. You can wear your wedding ring on your left ring finger, your right ring finger, or any other finger you choose.

Do I have to wear my engagement and wedding rings on the same finger?

Most people in the UK choose to wear their engagement and wedding rings on the same left ring finger, but that doesn’t mean you have to. Some people do this out of tradition, while others do it for practical reasons. If your engagement ring and wedding ring don’t look quite right together, you can wear them on different fingers.

eternity rings

How do you wear engagement, wedding, and eternity rings?

There are no rules about which order you have to wear your engagement, wedding, and eternity rings. Many people choose to wear their eternity ring above their engagement and wedding ring on their left ring finger. If all the rings complement each other, this can look beautiful.
But don’t worry if your engagement, wedding, and eternity rings don’t work well together. You can choose to keep your eternity ring separate and wear it on another finger. If you’re wearing your engagement and wedding rings on your left ring finger, you may want to wear your eternity one on your right ring finger.

You don’t even have to wear your rings on your fingers at all if you don’t want to. If three rings are a little much for you, consider wearing your engagement and wedding rings on your fingers and your eternity ring on a chain around your neck.

It’s your choice

Ultimately, it’s entirely up to you how you choose to wear your wedding ring. Your jewellery is your own and symbolises a personal, intimate commitment to love and your partner. Because of this, the decision is totally yours. Don’t let social norms and traditions put you off wearing your rings how you want to.
